Babesia bigemina
- A large Babesia species, having a characteristic pear-shaped
- Often more infected RBCs in the smear compared with B.bovis (can be variable)
- When paired organisms can be seen within an erthrocyte, they are often at an acute angle (less than 90 degrees) with narrow ends in apposition
- May also see them as rounded or oval forms, or single pear-shaped parasites
